The largest station, the Harsprånget hydroelectric power station, is located on the upper Lule River and has a maximum production capacity of 977 MW. The Lule River is also the most productive river, with almost 18% of the Swedish installed capacity. Almost all of the medium to large plants are located in northern Sweden.
The Swedish national grid for electricity consists of approximately 16,000 km of power lines, about 175 substations and switching stations and 16 connections to other countries. Our society places high demands on a safe and reliable electricity supply.

All of Svenska kraftnät's power lines must have a permit, known as a concession, in order to be in operation. For certain lines, we need to apply for an extended permit after a certain time. The government has assigned Svenska kraftnät the task to maintain and develop the Swedish national grid for electricity.
