Australian water companies use floating solar panels
Australian water utilities companies are turning to floating solar panels to reduce evaporation, conserve water and generate renewable energy in response to climate challenges.
Large-scale floating solar panels are coming to Australian lakes, reservoirs and dams. A collaboration between renewable energy firm Canopy Power Australia and Norwegian floating solar developer Ocean Sun was announced earlier this month with plans to roll out solutions locally.
Canopy Power Australia and Ocean Sun are jointly introducing the new generation of floating solar solution to the Australian market. This new generation of floating solar, patented by Ocean Sun, consists of a circular membrane-based floater of 70m diameter. High efficiency solar panels are installed on the membrane to provide 700kWp of PV capacity.
Canopy Power, a Singapore-based company backed by TotalEnergies SE and the Gaia Impact Fund, is one of the firms bringing this technology to Australia. Last December, it secured exclusive rights to distribute a floating solar system developed by Norway's Ocean Sun AS, a leader in this field.
