Besides influencing First Solar and its growing glass supply chain, policies such as the US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) are also spurring crystalline silicon manufacturing investment. This has triggered Canadian Premium Sand (CPS), a new entrant from Canada, to announce a solar panel glass project.
Pilkington – Pilkington is a UK-based manufacturer of glass products, including solar control glass. Their solar control glass products include Pilkington Suncool, Pilkington Eclipse Advantage, Pilkington Optilam, and Pilkington Activ Suncool. Euroglas – Euroglas is a German-based manufacturer of float glass products, including solar control glass.
Solar control glass can also help to enhance the sustainability of a building. By reducing the amount of solar heat and light that enters a building, solar control glass helps to reduce the cooling load on air conditioning systems, which can lead to lower energy consumption and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
The CPS integrated glass project requires a CAD 880 million ($639 million) investment to set up the plant and develop a silica sand site. The plan includes multiple lines of tempered and patterned solar glass, including anti-reflective and anti-soiling coating lines, to be online in 2026.
