Overview of smart anti-corrosion coatings and their
Large quantities of healing agents are often needed to drive the self-healing behavior of coatings, making microcapsules the most suitable storage containers, while
Their advantages for corrosion protection include cost-effectiveness, eco-friendliness, and stability in corrosive environments. However, challenges persist, such as insolubility in aqueous mediums and poor adhesion to substrates (Kendig et al. 2003; Prasai et al. 2012).
Moreover, results of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) proved that the smart anticorrosive coating has good corrosion resistance. This is attributed to the fact that when corrosion occurred, cerium ions migrated from the coating to the metal/solution interface.
The results show that it has good corrosion resistance, and when the thickness of the coating is not less than the scratch width, the healed coating has 100 % sealing property. The coating has long-term corrosion resistance . Fig. 15.
The Advantages of Intelligent Anticorrosion Coatings Long-term protection of metal surfaces from corrosion: Anticorrosion coatings can provide long-term protection to metal surfaces, preventing them from being affected by chemical reactions such as corrosion and oxidation, extending the service life of facilities.
