Grants will be awarded to wastewater treatment plants committed to achieving and maintaining site net zero energy performance or better. Plants must maximize energy eficiency and ofset all their energy consumption with on-site generation from renewable resources. Grants start at $5,000.
Eligible funding includes permanent working capital, refinancing and real estate, machinery and equipment, and acquisition financing. Priority assistance is given to food waste projects for composting and anaerobic digestion, and to facilities that divert food waste from disposal.
Each grant includes up to 2.5% (up to $12,500, whichever is less) for permanent educational signage and displays. Wastewater treatment facilities, either publicly owned and operated by local government or a public agency or established by legislative action Facilities must be designed and scheduled to operate full time, year-round.
Eligible projects include those that create or improve systems such as those that: Upgrade projects to convert wastewater and byproducts to energy. Funding is available through FY 2026. Funding is administered by the EPA.
