The battery bridge: From renewable ambition to reliable power
Just as tanks store rain during the monsoon to be used during droughts, Battery Energy Storage Systems captures excess electricity, especially from renewable natural
Delhi's first standalone battery energy storage system will enhance power supply for 100,000 consumers, ensuring reliability during peak demand and outages.
"Grid-scale battery storage is crucial for cities like Delhi, where fluctuating demand and space constraints limit conventional infrastructure expansion," an official said. New Delhi: Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has given its in-principle nod to BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) to set up four grid-sca.
The systems are expected to improve supply reliability. These storage systems enhance network utilisation and relieve the stress on congested feeders. They store electricity in rechargeable batteries for use when demand rises or generation dips. They also support the integration of various renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power.
Backed by a long-term Battery Energy Storage Capacity Agreement (BESPA) with BRPL, the project leverages AmpereHour's modular AH-Stack platform and its proprietary ELINA Energy Management Software. ELINA optimizes real-time battery performance using AI and addresses India-specific grid challenges such as voltage fluctuations and peak demand spikes.
