Performance testing is a critical component of safe and reliable deployment of energy storage systems on the electric power grid. Specific performance tests can be applied to individual battery cells or to integrated energy storage systems.
Integrated system tests are applied uniformly across energy storage technologies to yield performance data. Duty-cycle testing can produce data on application-specific performance of energy storage systems. This chapter reviewed a range of duty-cycle tests intended to measure performance of energy storage supplying grid services.
